Fruit Bead Wine Charms

Fruit Bead Wine Charms

These fun and fruity wine charms are a great way to label glasses at a summer party.

They are quick and easy to make but, as memory wire is very tough, they do require a bit of strength to turn the loops at the end.

Instructions

Wine Charms Instructions Step 1

Step 1 - Make the Fruit Bead Charm

Cut about 10cm of the 0.6mm wire and thread it through a fruit bead.

Place the fruit bead on the wire to leave about 4cm on one side and 6cm on the other.

Wine Charms Instructions Step 2

Step 2

Bend both ends of the wire up so that they cross at the top of the fruit bead.

Step 3

Wrap the short half of the wire around the longer half a couple of times. Trim the short half of the wire close to the wrap using your wire cutters.

Squash the end of the wire into the wrap using a pair of chain nose pliers. This will get rid of any sharp edges and will give a nice, neat finish.

Straighten the long half of the wire so that it points upwards from the top of the bead.

Step 4

Using your round nose pliers, make a wrapped loop above the top of the bead.

Before making this loop you need to check the right direction to make it in. For the lemon bead shown you would turn the bead sideways and then make the loop as shown. This will ensure that the bead falls correctly when placed on the wine charm.

Trim the wire close to the wrap again, and squash the end in with your chain nose pliers.

Step 5 - Make the Memory Wire Ring

Cut a ring of memory wire with an overlap of about 1.5cm.

You will need very stong wire cutters or memory wire cutters to do this.

Wine Charms Instructions Step 6

Step 6

Turn a small loop on one end of the memory wire.

You will need to persevere with this as it can be tough to do, due to the stiffness of the memory wire.

Step 7

Thread on 6 of the 4mm fire-polished beads.

Wine Charms Instructions Step 8

Step 8

Thread on the fruit bead charm you made earlier.

Wine Charms Instructions Step 9

Step 9

Thread on another 6 firepolished beads.

Turn another small loop and you've finished.

To put it on your wine glass open it slightly and slip it around the stem.

The memory wire will bounce back to shape and your wine charm will stay on the glass.
