Clamshells, or Calottes, are an alternative way to attach a clasp to a necklace.
The way to use them is to thread the bead stringing wire, or thread, through the hole in the clamshell. Knot the wire, or attach a crimp bead to the end, and then carefully close the two halves of the clam shell together to cover the knot.
Attach the clasp to the ring, or hook, on the clam shell.
